This fancy little dress was on clearance at JC Penny’s last year. Kaylee LOVED it, and eventually it grew on me too. The layered lace, the ruched sleeves; no doubt about it: it’s FANCY.
Fast forward a year, and this sweet little dress is filthy! The picture is actually quite flattering, but it’s filthy. The kind of filth that just won’t come out in the wash. Popsicle drips, yogurt smears and whatever else that girl gets into just would not come out.
I cut off the top portion of the dress and sewed the flouncy bottom onto a garage sale $.50 shirt from the Gap. It’s not quite as fancy as the original with the fake necklace and awesome sleeves, but she likes it.
We enhanced that plain white sweater with some paint and buttons. I cut out the flower shape with my Silhouette machine and some freezer paper. We used craft paint (I happen to know that it stains clothes really good) to stencil flowers along one side of the sweater.
It turned out waaaaaay better than I expected!
The other day, Brian was looking at some abstract art that she had created and said, “I can not wait to see all the cool things the two of you make together as she gets older.” Well babe, I think this might be the first.
