My cousin asked me to “do something” with her favorite black sweater. I think it’s so funny when people who can sew are hesitant about working on their own clothes. (check out her really cool stuff at Whimsical Dreams Boutique!) This is the same cousin who asked me to alter her wedding dress; she has a lot more trust in my sewing skills than I deserve.
Somehow, she snagged the sweater on something and cut off the string. It made a hole. And the hole got bigger and bigger, basically unraveling right at boob level. Here’s my freebie tip: if a sweater gets snagged, use a pin or the tip of a pen to poke the string back to the other side. Who cares if you have a little loopdy-loop on the inside of the sweater, right?
I added some dark coral lace to each side, figuring it would be the best way to cover up hole. Now her ruined sweater is smashingly unique!
Last year on my birthday, I intentionally did 34 “pay it forward”, “make someone smile”, “random acts of kindness” throughout the day. It was awesome, but this year, I want to put a little more time and effort by using the whole month of September. I think that will give me enough time to squeeze 35 actions, representing my 35 years of life. I have a list of ideas, some are easy, some are hard, some cost money and some require time. A few things I’ve been meaning to do forever and just need a little deadline like this to make happen. I hope you’ll cheer me on as I do some things a little out of the ordinary; and if you are inspired to do a random act of kindness in my honor, I’d love to hear about it. I’d consider it a little birthday present!
