38 is GREAT! #29,30 Haircuts and Hamlin Beach

September 25, 2016 By: Amy Trager1 Comment

Can you believe I didn’t cut my hair for a year?  365 days.  It’s true.  Last year on my birthday, I asked for about 10 inches to be cut off.  I wanted something completely different, and it was cut right to my chin.  I didn’t like it much.  Not much at all, so I let it grow and grow all year long.  I’m starting to like the length of it, but it needed to be cleaned up a bit. Today, Tori from Pharaoh’s Hairum cut 1.5 inches off the front and 2 inches off the back.  It’s like a long bob, or super long wedge cut.  They gave me a complimentary conditioner treatment because it was my birthday.  How nice!phototastic-9_22_2016_1917a52c-7451-4ddb-8b37-17e859716c34On my actual birthday, I took off work to get my haircut, a manicure, coffee and a muffin, and then drove out to one of my favorite places around:  Hamlin Beach.  Most years we camp here for a few days, but this summer we only spent one afternoon picnicking there with friends.  I needed more time.  I craved seeing the color combination of sand, water, sky.  I wanted to hear the waves hitting the rocks and let the sun fall on my face.  I took a book, my sketchbook and a chair and found a little spot on the grass.  wp_20160922_13_08_48_pro_liThe water was clearer than I’ve ever seen;  hard to believe this is Lake Ontario, which has a reputation of being yucky.  Some years the beach is even closed for swimming due to poor water quality.  I doubt anyone was swimming, even though the air temperature was very warm.  The park was quiet, with a few older people walking slowly down the path with their dogs.  I bet they are retired, those lucky people who have put in their work years and can relax.  I so look forward to those years…. wp_20160922_13_06_21_rich_liFor the most part, it felt like I had the place to myself.  It was an amazing way to spend my afternoon birthday, contemplating the many blessings in my life in such a pretty place.

Do you want to see what else I did to celebrate my birthday this year?

Weighted Blanket for my sis

Last year, my sister mentioned that she wanted a weighted blanket, like the ones doctors recommend to people with autism, anxiety or insomnia.  She’s always loved blankets (me too) and those heavy corn/ rice packs that can be warmed up in the microwave (me too).   Knowing that her birthday was coming up, I looked at buying […]
