My friend gave me a yucky old side table a while back, asking if I wanted to do something with it. Of course I did! But first I let it sit around my house for quite a long time. It had water stains and was extremely boring. It was nothing to look at and unless you needed a spot to put your coffee down, I doubt you would have even noticed it in my house.
Last month, in the middle of doing all my birthday fun things, I got out some paints and turned part of my living room into a furniture painting studio. I had forgotten how much I love to paint! I love the transformation, more than the actual painting, to tell you the truth. I mean, look at that photo! Everyone who has walked into my house in the past two weeks spots this little table immediately and comments on it. The carvings on the pedestal “pop” since I lightly brushed over them, leaving the original dark stain in the carvings visible. I had planned to glaze this piece to bring out the details, but I didn’t have to. (time saver!) The top of the table didn’t like the white chalk paint-even after several light coats, I couldn’t get good coverage. I found a little sampler paint in the basement and used that, blending it with some white chalk paint to get a blended blue color. It turned out really great. So great in fact, that I decided to paint my piano. (again.) I’m almost done with that project, so keep an eye out for some pictures coming soon!
